Why OGA Exists
The Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA) preserves and advances the principles of the Orton-Gillingham Approach established by Dr. Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham. To fulfill this mission, OGA:
✓ Establishes professional and ethical standards for Orton-Gillingham practitioners and educators.
■ Certifies individuals who demonstrate competence in the Orton-Gillingham Approach.
▸ Accredits training and instructional programs that meet Academy standards.
● Supports and disseminates research related to Orton-Gillingham instruction.
➔ Promotes public awareness of dyslexia and the educational needs of individuals with dyslexia.

The Academy was established through the collaborative efforts of distinguished Orton-Gillingham educators from across the United States who shared a commitment to serving individuals with dyslexia and advancing the profession.
Since beginning formal operations in 1995, OGA has grown to more than 3,800 members worldwide. Governed by a Board of Trustees elected from its Fellows, the Academy carries out its work through committees of dedicated volunteer leaders and members.
A unique distinction of OGA is that every member can trace their professional training lineage back to Dr. Orton or Anna Gillingham through their Academy Fellow trainer.
OGA is incorporated under New York Education Law and is authorized by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.

Founding Fellows
Founded in 1995, the Orton-Gillingham Academy was established by leading Orton-Gillingham educators from across the United States dedicated to advancing literacy instruction and supporting individuals with dyslexia.

Today, OGA includes more than 4,000 members worldwide who have met its professional standards.
